First responders from multiple agencies in the Fort Smith area stopped a suicide attempt Wednesday afternoon on the Garrison Avenue Bridge.
At about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, a man stopped his vehicle in the eastbound lane on the Oklahoma side of the bridge and threatened to jump from the bridge. First responders from Moffett, the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department, the Fort Smith Fire Department and the Police Department responded to the scene, according to a Fort Smith Police Department news release.
Officers with the Police Department struggled with the man who was trying to jump. At least one officer with the Police Department suffered a possible broken arm, the release states.
The man was released into the custody of the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department following the incident. His identity has not been confirmed, the release states.
