James W. Baber, 94, of Hot Springs, passed away on June 8, 2018. He was born January 20, 1924, in Broken Bow, Okla. to Bill and Elsie Baber.
James is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; son, Hayes; sister, Imogene; and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Donna Flenniken (Thad), Mary Gail Vidrick (Bob); daughter-in-law, Kathy Baber; grandchildren, Tess Condley (Blake), Wes Flenniken and TJ Baber; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Maggie Flenniken and Kai and Marley Condley; and brother, Douglas Baber (Barbara).
James served as Sergeant B24 Gunnery Instructor/Army Air Corps during WWII. In Hot Springs, February 1944, he and Shirley were married. They had three children. In 1953 the family relocated to Arkadelphia when he began a career at Reynolds Metal. He and his family were charter members of St. Andrew Methodist Church which he helped build. At retirement they returned to their beloved Hot Springs and joined Piney Grove United Methodist where he served as a Trustee, was active in the men's group, and a member of the Rainbow Sunday School Class.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Piney Grove United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Piney Grove United Methodist Church.
