Tyson Foods has undertaken a "temporary layoff" of about 150 workers at its Van Buren chicken processing facility.

Worth Sparkman, a Tyson Foods spokesperson, said Tuesday the Van Buren plant was notified Tuesday that about 150 workers would be part of a "temporary layoff" at the end of March “due to production needs.”

The workers “may be eligible to work at other locations” in the area," and the company will assist with the application process, the spokesman added.

The Van Buren facility is located at 802 S. 28th St.

Tyson Foods is based in Springdale.

Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman's office states they were notified Monday of the impending "labor force reduction." Freeman was not available for comment Wednesday.
