The community is invited to participate in an event that will benefit the Arkadelphia Badger football team.
According to Cheryl Gildner of Gildner Auto Group, the event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Gildner Auto. Proceeds from the event will be given to the Arkadelphia Badger football team to help them purchase their state championship rings. The Badgers defeated the Warren Lumberjacks 28-27 in December to win the Class 4A state football champions.
According to Gildner, the cost for the rings is approximately $22,000. She is hopeful that Saturday’s event will generate at least $12,000.
Food and a silent auction are among some of the activities that will be provided during the event.
“Citizens Bank will sponsor the hot dogs and Bank of the Ozarks will sponsor the hamburgers,” said Gildner.
In addition, Southern Bancorp will oversee the silent auction. Memorabilia, a weekend stay at the Iron Mountain Marina, a framed photograph of the Badger football team, a jersey, football and helmet signed by the team and coaches are among some of the items that will be auctioned off during the event.
A ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon, followed by a prayer. Arkadelphia Mayor James Calhoun will present a proclamation to recognize the football team’s accomplishments, as well as the Arkadelphia High School band winning the state championship. Recognition will also be given to the Arkadelphia High School cheerleaders and Dazzlers dance team.
A miniature horse drawn carriage, along with a variety of other activities will be available to help raise funds.
In addition, volunteers from businesses and organizations such as the Rockin-U-Round-Up Club, the Arkadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Iron Mountain Marina will be present.
Calhoun, along with Arkadelphia City Manager Gary Brinkley, head football coach J.R. Eldridge and Stacey Marlar of Southern Bancorp are among the coordinators for the event.
“It will be at Gildner, but it is a group and community effort,” said Gildner.
Anyone who would like to make a contribution to silent auction can contact Stacey Marlar at Southern Bancorp (870) 246-5811.
