My father once told me that nothing in life was certain except death and taxes. My dad’s words still ring true today. I’ve learned through the years that death and taxes are a big part of my life, and I cannot escape either. Maturing, we find out about life, and that life entails many things. Working every day is one, and the other is paying an income tax.

Lennox lays off 247 in Stuttgart

The Lennox Industries Stuttgart facility has announced more reductions in their work force. The layoff, which started Monday, will include 242 hourly employees and 14 salaried employees. This is a 25 percent decrease in their hourly work force.

Fleeing suspect caught hiding in portable toilet

A suspect that fled from police before noon Thursday was caught around 2:50 p.m. after a witness called police to report a suspicious male walking about a block from where police said he wrecked a vehicle earlier in the day.

Two people died in a house fire on the east side of Helena-West Helena early Wednesday morning. The Helena-West Helena Fire Department began fighting the fire about 2:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Miller Street. Firefighters recovered one of the bodies but had to call the search for the other body until daybreak. The victims were identified as Rosie Hill, 41, and Ambrose Minor, 66. -- The Daily World
