A suspect that fled from police before noon Thursday was caught around 2:50 p.m. after a witness called police to report a suspicious male walking about a block from where police said he wrecked a vehicle earlier in the day.
The man was caught hiding in a portable toilet at Red River Music Company in Heber. Police said a child and a dog were left in a stolen vehicle after the driver wrecked it and fled from officers.
Peeler was called to the Cleburne County Courthouse around 11:40 a.m. on a report of a child being alone inside a vehicle.
Peeler went ahead and checked the vehicle, spoke with the driver, and began to leave when the police dispatcher wanted to verify the license plate number Peeler had given her. As she was reporting the car as possibly stolen, the driver fled in the vehicle.
Police said the driver led Peeler back and forth and up and down side roads in Heber Springs for about five minutes before wrecking the car, leaving the child and the dog behind. The child was not injured. The dog received minor injuries.
