An effort is underway to revitalize the Gurdon athletic booster club, according to Stacy Blackard of Gurdon Rotary and a booster club promoter.
“We are bringing back the booster club to support athletic programs in the Gurdon schools,” said Blackard. “This club is put together to get the community involved and to promote our athletic programs. We’re really focusing on being able to retain and grow the athletic programs’ participation within the student body and the community as well.”
According to Blackard, there has been a small dip in the number of athletic program participants in Gurdon, potentially due to students not being able to afford the costs of extracurricular activities.
“We don’t want to see declining numbers continue in our athletic programs,” said Blackard. “Hopefully the booster club program can increase the funding and support for all of the programs.”
According to Blackard, different levels of membership are available for those interested in supporting the booster club; each level includes its own “perk.”
“The memberships will range from $10 to $35,” said Blackard. “Once someone is a member, they are eligible to purchase a season’s pass. The pass will get you into every junior high and senior high home game at $1 off the gate price.”
The booster club has planned several fund raisers and activities, including a cookout for the junior and senior high football teams and cheerleaders.
“We intend to have a raffle sometime soon, we’ll give more details about it as the time gets closer,” said Blackard.
The booster club will have booths set up at the football games and at the upcoming Forest Festival.
