GURDON - Shayla Anna hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Ashli Gray and lift the Gurdon Lady Go-Devils to a 7-6 win over the visiting Arkadelphia Lady Badgers on Thursday afternoon in Gurdon.
The Lady Badgers struck first in the top of the first inning when Ashlyn Taylor reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base. Taylor moved to third on a passed ball and scored when Hannah Fennochi single with two outs.
The Lady Go-Devils went down in order in the bottom of the first on three ground ball outs. Arkadelphia came back in the top of the second inning to add a run when Lyndi Porter singled with one out and stole second. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored when Macey Green singled with two outs to make it a 2-0 Lady Badgers lead.
Gurdon scored its first run in the bottom of the secondinnign when Gray reached on a fielder’s choice and moved dos second on a ground out from Gabby Gonzales. A passed ball moved Gray to third base and an error allowed her to score to make it 2-1.
Taylor doubled for Arkadelphia in the top of the third inning, but was left stranded at third base. Kira Accor led off the bottom of the third inning with a walk and went to second on when Anna singled. With two outs, Daehsa Ivory singled in Accor to tie the game 2-2 for Gurdon.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but the Lady Badgers added another run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead. Green led off with a single up the middle and Mollie Daniell walked. Taylor doubled to left field to bring in Green.
The Lady Go-Devils threatened in the bottom of the fifth when Kelteana Tidwell walked and went to third when Ivory reached on an error with two outs. Both runners were left stranded on base. Kamryn Thorne reached on an error in the top of the sixth inning for Arkadelphia, but didn’t get past first base.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gonzales singled and Quashia Dickens walked, but both Gurdon runners were left stranded on base.
Daniell singled with one out in the top of the seventh inning and went to second when Taylor singled. Daniell stole third base, but both Arkadelphia runners were left on base with a pop fly to the pitcher and a ground out to the shortstop.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ivory singled to right field and went to second a botched fielder’s choice play that allowed Lorrin Shaver to reach base. Gray singled to right field to score Ivory and tie the game 3-3 for the Lady Go-Devils.
Onesha Steen started the top of the eighth inning on second base by virtue of the extra inning rule in softball. Steen’s pinch runner, Allie Harris scored on a line drive single to right field by Sallie Matthews to put Arkadelphia ahead 4-3.
Gonzales started the bottom of the eighth inning for Gurdon second base and moved to third on a single from Dickens. With one out, Anna reached on an error to load the bases. Rebekah Sims hit a fly ball to center field to score Gonzales and tie the game at 4-4.
With Daniell at second to start the top of the ninth inning for Arkadelphia, Taylor tripled to center field to score Daniell for a 5-4 lead. After Harris reached on a bunt-single, Matthews hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Taylor for a 6-4 Arkadelphia lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, Tidwell started second and moved to third when Ivory singled. Lorrin Shaver walked to load the bases and Gray grounded int o fielder’s choice to score Tidwell. Ivory was out at third base and Shaver advanced to second. With two outs, Dickens singled to center field and Lorrin Shaver scored to tie the game 6-6 for Gurdon.
The Lady Badgers went down in order in the top of the 10th inning. Gray was on second base to start the Gurdon half of the 10th and advanced to third base when Accor sacrificed. Anna singled in Gray for the Lady Go-Devils game-winner.
