Caleb Jacobs scored 16 points and Jamison Threadgill aded 10 points to lead the Gurdon junior Go-Devils past the Arkadelphia freshman Badgers 55-21 on Monday night in Arkadelphia.
Ernest Young tied the game with a basket, but Threadgill made two free throws and steal, then passed to Jacobs for a layup. Jayden Quarles scored for Arkadelphia, but Antonio Dickens put in a free throw and Jacobs added another basket for a 9-4 Gurdon lead in the first quarter.
Sammy Hawthorn made two free throws for the Badgers and Kevon Stewart put in one of two from the line to close the gap to two points. Gurdon missed four straight free throws, but Sam Smith made one of two from the line with two seconds left in the period to put the Go-Devils up 10-7.
Markel Pollins scored inside on two separate trips down court for Gurdon. Jacobs made a free throw and hit a 3-pointer then DJ Anna scored for a 22-7 lead.
Hawthorn put in a basket for Arkadelphia, but Pollins scored two more baskets inside to put the Go-Devils up by 15 points, 24-9. After Logan Colden added two free throws, Jerrod Grey put in two free throws for Arkadelphia. Jacobs scored, Anna put in a basket and Dickens drove the lane for a layup. Anna added two free throws to make it 32-13 before Young scored for the Badgers to cut the Gurdon lead to 32-15 by halftime.
Jacobs opened the third quarter with a basket and Smith put in a 3-pointer. Smith put in another 3-pointer and added a free throw for a 41-17 lead. Jacobs, Threadgill, Dickens and Pollins scored to lift the Go-Devils to a 48-19 lead by the end of the third.
Threadgill added two baskets and Jackson hit a 3-pointer for Gurdon in the fourth quarter that saw the clock continually run with the sportsmanship rule in effect.
