Bernie William Hixon Sr. 91, of Arkdelphia, passed away due to complications of cancer on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Glenwood Nursing Home.  
He was born in West Plains, Mo., on Oct. 28, 1918, the son of Albert Franklin and Daisy Mathis Hixon.  Bernie was a great husband, father, friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; half sister, Sybil Bowman; and grandson, George David Hixon Jr.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Nadine Holcomb Hixon of Arkadelphia; three children, Bernie William Hixon Jr. (Terry) of Wyoming, Kathryn Hixon Gruszecki (Robert) of Idaho and George David Hixon (Toni) of Oregon; four stepchildren, Curtis Chunn (Carol) of Louisiana, John Fred Chunn (Betty) of Arkansas, Steve Howard Chunn (Cheryl) of Arkansas and Debra Chunn of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jessica Pipkin (Jeff) of Arkadelphia, Cody Hixon of Florida, Aubrianne Powell of Louisiana, John Fred Chunn Jr. of Arkansas, Danny Chunn of Texas, Sonya Buffington of Arkansas, Bobby McAllisper of Arkansas, Rick (Amee) Milton of Texas; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Lindsey and Colton Pipkin of Arkadelphia, Avery Powell of Louisiana, John Fred Chunn III, Madison Chunn of Arkansas, Abby Chunn of Texas, Taylor, Bailey & Kinzey Buffington of Arkansas, Kierstin and Kolton McAllisper of Arkansas and Christian and Madeline Milton of Texas.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 12, at DeGray Cemetery with Rev. David Young officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers will be Jim Golden, Allan Golden, Shawn LaFevers, Mike LaFevers, Don Russell and Jerry Garner.
Memorials may be made to DeGray Cemetery Fund, c/o Carley Bledsoe, Jr., 150 Bledsoe Road, Arkadelphia, AR  71923.
