Waymon A. Betterton, 92, of Alma died June 20, 2018, in Fort Smith. He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Alma to H.N. (Newt) and Mellie Betterton. He was retired from the State of Arkansas Employment Security Division and a World War II Army veteran. He was also a member of the Fine Springs Masonic Lodge and the Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with the Rev. Chris Rink officiating. There will be a Masonic service included in the service. There will be a family visitation at the funeral home at noon. Burial will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with military honors. Service is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eula; and brothers, Calvin and Henry. He is survived by his wife, Joan of the home; and stepdaughter, Joyce Essman of Fort Smith; a brother, Bob Betterton and wife Golda of Alma. He is also survived by nephews, Scott Betterton and wife Lynn of Galena, Alaska, and Sam Betterton and wife Peggy of Alma. He is also survived by six great-nieces and nephews.
