The Go-Devil cross country teams competed in their district meet Saturday, Oct. 31 in Prescott. The races were run on payment due to the muddy conditions on Prescott’s course. Teams in attendance included Gurdon, Prescott, Bismark and Genoa Central.
The junior girls finished first runner-up to Prescott, despite the undesirable starting position. The junior boys finished first in the district, with five Gurdon runners finishing in the top ten.
In the senior division, Makayla Harper ran for seventh place, running her best time of the season.
“This has been our best season ever, with the hardest working group of athletes I have coached,” said Coach Brandie Kirkpatrick, “Cross country is a hard sport that takes a lot of determination and guts.”
The runners earning places in the top ten received district medals and the junior high teams both brought home plaques to proudly display in the school.
The future of Gurdon’s cross country team is “looking promising” says Kirkpatrick.
