On the day their jury trial was scheduled, one of the four Gurdon men accused of breaking into an Okolona woman’s house, subduing her with duct tape and robbing her in September pleaded guilty on Tuesday morning.
Brian Green, 28, changed his plea in front of Circuit Judge Robert McCallum and received a 32-year prison sentence for charges of attempted capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, kidnapping and theft of property.
Green could have faced life in prison, but Prosecuting Attorney Blake Batson suggested the sentence be lowered due to Green’s cooperation with law enforcement in the case. Green’s statement to police after the four were arrested will also be used in testimony against the co-defendants, Oscar Willingham, 37, Obryan Bell, 21, and Anthony Marks, 35.
The trial, meanwhile, has been delayed and awaits the results of a mental evaluation for Willingham. The trial is expected to begin on the week of Monday, March 26.
