With the winter weather finally here there are tons of activities going on at the Central Arkansas Development Council Gurdon Activity Center. The center offers an abundance of programs to members as well as Gurdon area residents interested in joining.

“We try to offer something for everyone,” said site manager RoyceAnn Barbaree.

According to Barbaree, there is always something going on. The center offers area seniors a place to meet and socialize as well as exercise.

The center has a library, exercise area, computer access and entertainment. The members try to take a trip or small outings every month and are planning a trip to Iron Mountain in December to see the array of Christmas lights. They serve meals for seniors 60 and over for a $2 donations or a $6 donation for those 60 and under.

They have a lot on the schedule for the month of December. On Dec. 10 the Gurdon Primary School will be singing for the group, Dec. 14 the Cabe Middle School Choir will be performing and next up will be Mt. Cannon Baptist Church Praise Team on the 21st.

The center will be having there annual Christmas party on December 22.

“We usually go all out for our Christmas dinner,” said Barbaree, everyone is welcome to come and celebrate with us.”

With a schedule like that Barbaree said there is no way she could do everything for the center herself. “I work with some really amazing people. I couldn’t do it without the help of Rosemary White, assistant director,” said Barbaree.

Members of the CADC Gurdon Activity Center are equally thrilled with the services provided. “I always intended to come down here,” said member Jerry Hilton, “but work always seemed to keep me away, but now that I’m retired I really enjoy it.”

The center is open to everyone. “We play bingo every Friday and have consumer education presentations that are always interesting,” said Barbaree.

“We just love the food and fellowship that the center provides,” added Hilton, “It’s always a great time.
