We had a huge crowd for the ribbon cutting at Gurdon's AllCare Pharmacy. It was a festive time filled with food, prizes, fellowship and fun. The highlight for me was listening to Percy Malone as he was interviewed on FOX Sports Radio by broadcaster Wess Moore.
Mr. Malone recounted the events that led him to build the new pharmacy in Gurdon. Percy first said that new healthcare regulations had made it nearly impossible for small town pharmacies to stay in business.
As I understood it, he stated that insurance companies are driving consumers toward receiving their prescriptions through mail delivery and the profit margins for local pharmacies have dwindled. Last year Larry Thomerson of the former and longtime Thomerson's Drug Store in Gurdon contacted Percy. Larry told him that he was concerned that with the new regulations he may have to close his drug store.
Both men realized what a hardship this would be for the Gurdon community. They partnered together and the result is our beautiful new AllCare Pharmacy in Gurdon with Larry Thomerson as head pharmacist. The citizens of Gurdon are reaping the benefit of their investment and faith in our town.
As part of the grand opening people attending were encouraged to enter their name and phone number to have a chance to win cash prizes from $50 to $100. The drawings were held every half-hour and you had to be present to win. I was very pleased to see that several of the winners were members of our Gurdon Go-Devil Football Team. Our head coach, Kyle Jackson also spoke with Wess Moore and we are all looking forward to a great season.
