A woman died in a fire in Poteau on Saturday, according to a news release from the Poteau Police Department.
Around 10:53 a.m. Saturday, the Poteau fire and police departments were dispatched to 803 Sexton St. in Poteau on a call of a structure fire. When police arrived on scene, fire and smoke were visible coming from the back corner of the house.
Information was developed that the resident of the house, Dannyell McCullah, 44, was still inside. The Poteau Fire Department made entry, located McCullah in the bedroom, and removed her from the house. Fire department personnel initiated CPR until LeFlore County EMS arrived shortly afterward. EMS continued lifesaving efforts until it was determined McCullah could not be resuscitated.
The incident is under investigation by the state fire marshal's office, the state medical examiner's office and Poteau Police Department detectives. Preliminary point of origin for the fire was an air conditioner on the back corner of the residence. McCullah was transported to the state medical examiner's office in Tulsa for autopsy.
