The St. Mark Lodge #7 held the Annual St. John The Baptist Day on Sunday, June 24th. The event was held at the St. Paul A.M.E. Church located on Rink Road in Newport. The Lodge is an Affiliate of the Arkansas Prince Hall Grand Lodge District 6 Masons. District 6 members came from various cities in Arkansas to convene with the Newport’s local lodge. These visiting cities included Osceola, Jonesboro, Batesville, Marked Tree, Earle, as well as “Pride of Memphis” from Tennessee.  .

The St. Mark Lodge in Newport has existed for over 60 years. The Lodge was established by the late Reverend Tennyson W. Barnes, a well-known minister in the city of Newport.  His wife, the late Mrs. Irma Barnes was a former Science teacher for the Newport School District.

Arkansas Prince Hall Grand Lodge District 6 selects the top two Seniors within District 6 to offer a $1,000.00 scholarship apiece each year.  Our local chapter, St. Mark Lodge #7 selects four less fortunate families within the community to help with gifts during the Christmas Holidays. The Lodge is actively recruiting community-minded members and works hard to help this community.
