Plans of the fellowship hall have been on going for several years. J.T. (Jack) Daniel had a dream fro a hall to be built, and he and many others have worked tirelessly to make this dream come to reality.
Donations from yearly homecomings, yard sales, benefit supper and word of mouth made it possible to break ground and start construction in the spring of 2017 and see completion in April 2018.
With the efforts of so many to give of their time, labor, donations of building materials and money coming from as far away as Texas, Missouri, Ohio and North Carolina, the fellowship hall was completed debt free. Words cannot express how appreciative the church is for all who played a part in making this happen. We feel truly blessed and know that the hall will not only benefit the church, but the community as well.
Oak Grove Church was started approximately 1870. Thomas Tribble Fendley donated the land where the church and cemetery are located and in later years, Jack Daniel donated additional land.
Oak Grove started as a Methodist Protestant Church, but is considered non-denominational today. Early years saw circuit riding preachers making their rounds at Oak Grove as well as Piney, Sweet Home and Free Union.
Pastor Kevin Moss leads the services each Sunday and a gospel singing is held the first Saturday night of each month.
Memorial Services and Decoration Day was started around 1926 and has been held continuously since then. The church’s parishioners would like to invite everyone to join them Sunday, May 27 for their annual homecoming and dedication service. The fellowship hall dedication will be at 10:45 a.m. with preaching by guest pastor Greg Kirksey at 11 a.m.
“Dinner on the Ground” with good ole home cooking will be spread out at 12 p.m., followed by gospel singing at 1 p.m.
