Mary Virginia Holiman, age 95 of Malvern, died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Malvern.
She was born on February 17, 1923 in Gosnell, Arkansas to the late Thomas N. Alsop and Flora Maud Richardson Alsop.
Reared and receiving her early education in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kansas City, Missouri, and Springfield, Missouri, she graduated high school in Lono, Arkansas. Mary attended Draughon School of Business in Little Rock. She had been a resident of Donaldson, Arkansas since 1945. She and her husband owned and operated Holiman Service Station in Donaldson for nearly 20 years. For many years she was Registrar at Ouachita Baptist University. Most recently, Mary had been a resident of The Crossing in Malvern.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School class. She was the widow of the late Thomas Ray Holiman, to whom she was married on March 6, 1943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.He preceded her in death on December 26, 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Rae Wells of Lonsdale; a grandson, William Ray Overton, III (Buddy) and his wife, Kim of Malvern; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Ray Overton and William Adam Overton; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Ann Holiman; by two brothers, and two sisters.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at three o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverend Bruce Bennett officiating. Visitation will precede the service by one hour, beginning at two o’clock. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
