A new Fort Smith streets and traffic control director has been hired, the city administrator said.

George Allen will replace former Streets Director Greg Riley, who resigned about a year ago. Matt Meeker, an engineer in the city's engineering department, has served as interim director since Riley's resignation.

Allen most recently worked as the assistant public works director of operations for the city of Kissimmee, Fla., where he oversaw a staff of more than 100 people in sanitation, traffic, streets, stormwater, fleet maintenance and facility maintenance. He has also worked as a streets maintenance superintendent, streets/stormwater superintendent, stormwater supervisor and stormwater foreman for other cities in Florida, according to his resume obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. He has 28 years of experience in working for government agencies.

Allen will earn a salary of $86,528 and is scheduled to start May 29, according to his employment offer letter.
