It became my responsibility one day to neatly remove some bricks from around a corroded gas pipe going into a house so it could be replaced by the plumber.
The goal was to get them removed without breaking them up and defacing them. They were mortared in place very well, so I knew it was not going to be an easy task. The quick relatively easy way would be to take a sledge hammer to it and start swinging. That would free the pipe up, but it would also require a lot of repair that would be a different brick and mortar from the original.
Somehow I needed to just get the mortar joints broken out without breaking the brick. As I considered it, I was reminded of a tool that I discovered in my work van just recently that I did not know that I had. It was a small electric jack hammer in its own carry case, and it had been lying under another cased tool for a long time. I got it out and discovered that it had a blade that was just right to go into the mortar joints and free the bricks up without breaking or defacing them. With that tool I got the job done neatly and efficiently.
The Bible says the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal, and it listed nine supernatural “gifts” that can operate by the Holy Spirit through people in order to benefit others. There is wisdom, word of knowledge, and faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, and prophecy, and there is discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
By the use of these “tools” things can get done cleanly and efficiently in people’s lives and in the kingdom of God that man in his natural strength cannot accomplish. It says the Spirit distributes these gifts to people as he wills (1 Corinthians 12:7-11).
There are a lot of people who have supernatural gifts all cased up and lying under a bunch of stuff that needs to be opened up, and plugged in to the power, and used for the benefit of all. God places desires and inclinations in a person’s heart that is a pointer to the type gift or gifts that is there to be developed.
Jesus wants to live through every believer in power, and it is our responsibility and privilege to avail ourselves to him and step out in faith and love and allow him to do what he desires to do through us. Not only will we be blessed for our faithfulness to the Lord, but we will be a blessing to others as we get the job done by God’s power that could not be done by the power of man.
