A ribbon cutting for the new University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences West Regional Campus will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at 1301 S. E St. in Fort Smith.
Part of the program will include comments from UAMS Chancellor Dan Rahn and Sparks Health System CEO Dan McKay.
UAMS announced in March 2016 it would build a $10.5 million Family Medical Center in Fort Smith next to UAMS West. The 30,000-square-foot building will provide more space for physician residents in training. UAMS West trains 28 residents in the three-year program. The new facility will have 48 exam rooms, four patient-centered team work areas, a lab, X-ray facilities and patient consulting rooms.
“This new modern, efficient facility will help us accomplish our patient-centered goals and increase and enhance our medical education program,” UAMS West Center Director Don Heard said at a groundbreaking ceremony at UAMS West in March 2016.
