National Day of Prayer will be held Thursday, May 4 at 12:10 p.m. at Third Street Baptist Church.
The theme for this year's event, “For Your Great Name’s Sake!,” is taken from Daniel 9:19.
The program will begin with words of welcome and an introduction given by Greg Lathem of Third Street Baptist Church followed by the presentation of the colors by the Arkadelphia High School JROTC and the National Anthem by Makayla Rhea.
The Clark County Christian Academy will lead pledges to the American Flag, the Christian Flag and the Bible and will render several songs.
Arkadelphia Mayor James Calhoun will read a proclamation by the city of Arkadelphia, while Clark County Judge Troy Tucker will read a proclamation of behalf of Clark County.
Prayers will be offered for specific groups and individuals.
• Martin Jones of New Life Church will pray for National Leaders and the President of the United States.
• Kyle Jones of Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will pray for local leaders.
• Rick Mays of Trinity Temple will pray for the military.
• Missie Kramer of Women of Prayer United will pray for families.
• Matt Parker of Second Baptist Church will pray for youth and students.
Established in 1952, the National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday in May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation.
Arkadelphia hosted its first National Day of Prayer in May of 1999.
The inaugural event was held on the Clark County Courthouse lawn but was moved to Third Street Baptist Church.
