Something Out of Nothing
Sometimes the drum beat of life gets thrown off its rhythm. Nothing makes sense. Everything is dark and void. We were hoping for something great and fulfilling, instead we ended up with nothing in our hands—no plans, no dreams, no hopes---nothing but emptiness.
Genesis 1:2 tells us that, “The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”
We are also told in Matthew 27:45: “Now when he was crucified darkness came over all the world; the sun was altogether hidden, and the sky appeared dark while it was yet day.”
The people were in despair and they were without hope. However, three days later, Jesus rose from the dead and stepped forth into the glory of a new day and new life.
By reading these scriptures I am reminded that God is very skillful in His works. He can make something out of nothing. He can turn darkness into light, death into life, while giving hope to the hopeless.
My friend, are you experiencing this place?
If so, take courage. This can be the beginning to a great story. This can be the backdrop to a great adventure. Throughout history, every great work of God started in this exact place of emptiness. So, no matter how dark and empty life may seem, God is present. His spirit is hovering over you, ready to do the impossible. He can make something out of nothing.
