A statewide Amber Alert barely had time to be issued before a suspect was detained.
An 18-month-old boy was the subject of the alert, having been taken in Conway by non-custodial father Yimi Navarro-Cruz, who reportedly is 23-years-old.
The Conway Police Department stated on their social media accounts that Navarro-Cruz could have been heading for Texas in a black four door 2003 Volkswagen Jetta.
Around the time of the alert issuance, the Arkadelphia Police Department learned that a vehicle described like the suspect’s was in town. Sgt. Don Cleek responded to Burger King within minutes of the alert being issued and arrested Navarro-Cruz.
The toddler, who was found in a car seat, was reportedly taken in by DHS, who while handle returning him to family.
“We are very pleased to have been a part of the safe return of the child,” said APD Assistant Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson. “I am very proud of our patrol division for their fast response in locating the vehicle and the suspect. Especially Sgt. Cleek.”
The child was found to be unharmed.
