Setting Our Goals Heavenly
The New Year has arrived, and those of us who have made New Year’s Resolutions may have quickly discovered that setting the goal is only the beginning.
For example, deciding to lose 10 pounds. in conjunction with exercising more and eating healthier; Quitting old habits or managing the finances more wisely.
As you may know, it takes determination to make your goal a reality, or your attempt may end up becoming another flop. As for myself, after many years of falling short of my commitments, I figured out that it was much easier to approach the things I wanted to change, one day at a time.
God doesn’t mind us setting goals, but vast majority of New Year’s resolutions are in relation to earthly things. However, it is discovered in 1 Chronicles 22:19 that our ultimate goal is to set our heart and mind on seeking the LORD our God. In doing so, our focus will remain on the things of heaven. Colossians 3:2 tells us to “Set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
I realize it’s hard to live up to New Year’s resolutions, but I want to encourage you to take every opportunity to make Christ your main focus this year. So even if things aren’t accomplished as you wish, trust the Lord enough to rejoice in what lies ahead. Happy New Year!
