Though no estimates were prepared at presstime Monday, scores of area logging company and lumber mill owners gathered Saturday for an annual fundraising event to benefit the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
An office worker at Antoine Hardwoods said she had just received all the paperwork from Log-A-Load for Kids event, which was held at the Arkadelphia Recreation Center.
At least 66 tables were purchased, and those who attended or bought a ticket placed bids during a silent auction prior to enjoying a catered meal. A live auction, emceed by Steve “Wildman” Wilson of Talkin’ Outdoors, followed.
The fundraiser has had a successful track record, as it typically brings in more than $100,000 each year from the state’s South Central chapter alone. Collectively, the state’s five chapters raise an average of $291,000 each year and, since it began in 1993, have raised more than $4 million.
The proceeds will help construct a special wing for an ER trauma unit at the Little Rock hospital.
