The Cherokee Nation recently donated $195,000 to eight Boys & Girls Club programs throughout northeastern Oklahoma including Boys and Girls clubs in Sequoyah County, according to a recent news release from the tribe.
The Boys and Girls clubs in Sequoyah County received $16,035 based upon an enrollment number of 1,544 youth, the release states.
Bys and Girls Club programs in Adair, Cherokee, Delaware, Mayes, Nowata, Rogers and Washington counties also received funding based on enrollment, the release states. Collectively, these programs serve more than 11,000 students with nearly 60 percent of them being Native American. The programs provide mentors and create positive role models for youth, the release states.
