The Fort Smith Noon Lions Club had a successful fundraising year with its television auction in March and rib sale in January. The group recently met to distribute 100 percent of the proceeds from those efforts to several area nonprofits including the Good Samaritan Clinic, Children's Service League, Fort Smith Crisis Intervention Center, Fort Smith Children's Emergency Shelter and the Community Clearinghouse backpack program, each of which received $1,000, according to a news release from the Fort Smith Noon Lions Club.
Additionally, $500 each was presented to Special Olympics, the Fort Smith Boys' and Girls' Clubs and HOPE Humane Society.
The Fort Smith Noon Lions Club, known for providing eye exams and glasses, will hold its next fundraising event, White Cane Days, in October. Members meet at noon Tuesdays at Golden Corral, 1801 S. Waldron Road.
