Free health forum slated
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission will sponsor a free Fort Smith Community Health Forum from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Elm Grove Community Center, 1901 N. Greenwood Ave. Dr. William Greenfield, the AMHC commissioner and associate professor and division director of general obstetrics and gynecology for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, will be the keynote speaker. A free dinner will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Library board to meet
The Sebastian County Public Library Board of Directors will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at Farmers Bank in Greenwood. This will be the final meeting with discussions of plans for either building a new library or enlarging the current building. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
Chamber to hold annual meeting
The Poteau Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting at noon Jan. 23 at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center, 105 Reynolds Ave. in Poteau. Oklahoma state Rep. Leslie Osborn will be the guest speaker, and she will discuss the Oklahoma state budget and "The Politics Behind It." Lunch will be catered by Cakes and More of Poteau, and is provided free by the Chamber.

The Poteau Chamber also is accepting applications for the 12th annual Leadership LeFlore County Class. Leadership LeFlore County is designed to be a series of issue-oriented forums and learning experiences based on the belief that knowledge is a key element and prime motivator of a successful leader. Past graduates now serve in key positions and serve on many boards in both the local and state level.

Tickets available for WAC performances
At This Performance ... is a one-night only musical event beginning at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St. in Fayetteville. The show features Broadway’s best understudies and standbys, including Jessica Hendy, Linda Mugleston, Mykal Kilgore and Wade Preston, performing their favorite numbers from shows such as "Gypsy," "Movin’ Out," "Hair," "Kiss Me Kate," "Kinky Boots," "CATS" and "Hello Dolly!" Tickets start at $15.
Walton Arts Center will host the debut screening of "The Triplets of Belleville" as composer Benoit Charest leads Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville in a live performance at 7 p.m. Feb. 1. "The Triplets of Belleville Cine-Concert" is a unique experience involving an eight-piece orchestra playing, singing, dancing and performing live sound effects in sync with the 2003 Oscar-nominated animated feature. Tickets are $10.
And finally, the most-awarded Broadway musical of 2015, "An American in Paris" will be staged for eight performances Feb. 6-11. Inspired by the Academy Award-winning film, "An American in Paris" features the music of George and Ira Gershwin and the Tony Award-winning choreography of Christopher Wheeldon. Tickets start at $36.

Help support area youth
The fourth annual Community Strikes Back bowling tournament, hosted by the Commissary Kiwanis Club, will be held at 1 p.m. March 3 at Bowling World, 6100 S. 36th St. The event benefits the Fort Smith Children's Emergency Shelter. The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels. Each team will play three games to compete for prizes based on scores and costumes.
Also beginning March 3 will be this year's River Valley Corporate Challenge. The event brings businesses together through a series of athletic events that benefit the Children’s Emergency Shelter and the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Clubs. The challenge begins March 3 with bowling and ends June 2 with volleyball. All athletic events are co‐ed and businesses of all sizes are encouraged to sign‐up for the challenge.
The Fort Smith Children’s Emergency Shelter serves area children ages 6 to 17 who have been removed from their home by the Department of Human Services due to neglect and/or abuse. The CES provides shelter and care, in a safe and structured home-like environment and allows the children in crisis the opportunity to “just be kids.”
