Fred Douglas Owens, 72, of Arkadelphia, passed Dec. 20, 2013, in Baptist Health Medical Center-Arkadelphia. He was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Sparkman, son of Julius and Ida Williams Owens. Owens was a member of New Hope Church Of God In Christ and was a retired logger. He was preceded in his passing by his parents; one of his brothers, Roosevelt Owens Sr.; two of his sisters, Exie B. Williams and Rosetta Williams; and one greatgrandchild, Miracle Locke. He leaves memories in the hearts of his beloved wife of 49 years, Mae Francis Macon Owens; seven children, Curley Henderson of Sparkman, Odessa Matlock, Freddie Mae Butler, Flora Reed, Fred Owens and William Owens, all of Arkadelphia, and Frederick Owens of Camden; adopted son, Johnny Smith of Gurdon; 30 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie Redmond of Milwaukee, Wis., Loretta Matlock of Fordyce, and Inell Hicks of Little Rock; and three brothers, Arthur L. Owens of Champagne, Ill. Hezekiah Owens of Tulip, and the Rev. J.W. Owens of Arkadelphia. A public visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, from 3-6 p.m., at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6- 7 p.m. Home going services will be Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m., at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd Jr., is the pastor. The Rev. John Garr will officiate and Superintendent Robert Davis will preach the message. Interment will be in Harmony Community Cemetery. Services are provided by Williams FuneralHome.
