Bro. Raymond Hicks, age 81, of the Caney Community in Nevada County, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs.
Bro. Raymond Hicks, age 81, of the Caney Community in Nevada County, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs. Bro. Raymond was born, Friday, April 3, 1931, at Caney, to Monroe Herman and Effie Ellen Green Hicks.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phena Glass Hicks; four brothers; Leo, Hilton, Bobby and Larry Hicks; and three sisters; Nellie Callicott, Inez Callicott and Elsie Kale.
Bro. Raymond was a member of Morris Baptist Church, a former pastor of the church and a Mason of the Laneburg Lodge. He had been a pastor for over 60 years, serving as a missionary and a pastor of numerous other churches throughout south Arkansas and north Louisiana. He attended the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock and graduated from the Louisiana Missionary Baptist Institute in Minden, La., where he was a teacher of homeletics and Bible studie.
Bro. Raymond is survived by his two sons, Gary Hicks and wife, Loretta and Paul Hicks, all of Caney; his daughter, Sandra Hicks Brown and husband, Dickey of Arkadelphia; a brother, Adron “Dobber” Hicks of Waterloo; his sister, Bonnie Haynes of McCaskill; seven grandchildren, Gary, Terry and Mylisa Hicks, and Derek, Leigh-Ellen, and Ashi Helms of Arkadelphia; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Bro. Raymond is 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 20, at Brazzel/Cornish The Funeral Home of Prescott.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 21, at Morris Missionary Baptist Church in Caney. Burial will follow in Caney Cemetery, in Caney. Bro. Doyle Glass, the Rev. Jerry G. Westmoreland, Dr. Raymond Franklin and Chaplain David Smith will officiate the service.
