On Dec. 22, Drs. Herman and Juanita Sandford will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.

On Dec. 22, Drs. Herman and Juanita Sandford will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. They met in 1945 when Herman enrolled at Baylor University following his discharge from the army. He had served as a radar technician with the 8th Air Force in England.
They married in 1946 and graduated in 1947. Following their graduation they taught at Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas. Herman was dean of students and taught math. Juanita taught sociology and freshman English.
In 1959, they moved to Arkadelphia where Herman taught English and served for some years as chairman of the English Department at Ouachita Baptist University. Juanita taught sociology at Ouachita and in 1968 joined the sociology faculty at Henderson State University where she designed and coordinated the Woman’s Studies program which was the first in Arkansas.
The couple have three daughters, Susan McMillian of St. Louis, Mo., Linda Wells of Arkadelphia and Dr. Mary Kaye Sandford of Langley, Wash. They have seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
