Neither team who walked onto the field Friday night at Fred C. Hardke Stadium expected to lose, but, unfortunately for the Go-Devils, they were unable to walk away victorious.
Despite falling to the Carlisle Bison 13-12, the team fought hard from the opening kick to the final buzzer, forcing the Bison quarterback to kneel on the ball quickly as Gurdon’s defense began to force its way through Carlisle’s offensive line.
The Go-Devils finished their season with an impressive 10-3 (6-1 in conference) record.
Head coach John Pace feels the season was a great one for the Go-Devils.
"I think that when you win 10 ball games, it's a good season," he said. "In my 21 years here, I have had two 10 win seasons and one 11 win season. That puts this among the top two or three that we've had around here in 20 years. I know that we are one of the best teams in the 2A this year."
Pace said that the season has been a success despite the start.
"Looking at how we started, with Montel's [Williams] death, I think we had an extraordinary season," he continued. "These kids wanted to win for a reason, more than just to win it. I feel that we have really accomplished something here this season. We have had an extraordinarily good season. Our coaches did a good job, and the fans were enthusiastic. I think that if the game had been played here, we would have won it. These kids did a great job."
