Work is nearing completion on the fishing pier at Gurdon’s city park.
According to city Mayor Clayton Franklin, the dock should be completed soon.
“We are excited to see the finished project,” said Franklin. “They have been doing a lot of work, but got a little slowed down due to the weather.”
The project is part of the U.S. Corps of Engineers plan to vamp up the city’s pond after accidentally draining it last year.
The plans to include addition fish habitat have been completed as well.
“After the dock is finished, we will just wait on Mother Nature to help fill up the pond,” said Franklin. “Then Gurdon will have one of the best fishing ponds around.”
Franklin added that Gurdon has started to look at ways to improve the park and walking trail.
“We have been told that there may be some money to be found,” said Franklin. “We just need to work on the ideas and figure out what our goals for the park are.”
According to Franklin, there have been talks about doing something with the old city pond as well.
“I just want to look at all of our options,” said Franklin. “If there is a feasible way to make improvements, we are up for it.”
